HAPPY NEW YEAR FELLOW HACKS,
WELL, I HATE TO BRING THIS UP BUT 2026 IS THE YEAR OF THE PRESIDENT. SO, EVEN THOUGH I DON’T DESERVE IT PLEASE SHOW YOUR RESPECTS BY LISTENING TO MY ANNOUNCEMENTS PRIOR TO TEEING OFF. IT SEEMS I HAVE LOST CONTROL OF MY ONLY JOB MAKING THE OTHER BOARD MEMBERS ASK “DO WE REALLY NEED THIS POSITION?” I GET THE FEELING JANUARY MIGHT BE MY FINAL TEST. SO FOR YOU THAT ARE ATTENDING THE HUNTINGTON CLUB TOURNAMENT PLEASE ACT LIKE YOU’RE INTERESTED AND LISTING.
THANK YOU,
SMOK’EM IF YOU GOT’EM
JOHN

Happy 2026 Everyone,
Looking forward to another great year of golf with LACFGA. We start out Monday January 12th at the Huntington Club with a 10:00 am shotgun start. The Open players will be playing the Gold/Blue combination tees at 6240 yards 70.8/126 slope and the Seniors will be playing the White tees at 5586 yards 67.5/117 slope. The driving range will be open, practice balls included. Please note the 10:00 starting time. Starting at 11:00 there will be a BBQ lunch at the turn, included with your entry fee. There will also be a beverage cart.
Just a reminder to all members, you are representing L.A. CO. FIRE DEPT, our actions speak louder than words. Please be kind, friendly and gracious to all employees at the golf courses we play. It makes a huge difference when I go to negotiate the contract for the following year. Another reminder, all golf courses we play have a dress code and none of them allow you to bring ETOH, aka alcohol, on to the course, so please be discreet.

Wow, another year gone, WTF!
Before I go off on this month's rant I want to bring to your attention an upcoming event that some of our members are putting on, "Fairways For The Fallen." To get the 411 on this event click HERE. Information for this event can also be accessed from the "Events" section of our website.
As our club continues to grow, I thought we would start the year off with a review/refresher of a couple of the problem area’s where members seem to STILL be challenged;
- Optional Games: If you would like to play in the optional games you must choose the game/games, they are not included in the base tournament price.
- Closest To The Pin: This is an optional game, it is NOT included with the basic green fee. You must choose this option to be in.
- Best Ball Partner: Talk to each other & decide who is playing with whom, prior to signing up.
- Registration Conf: When your registration is completed & submitted you are emailed a confirmation of your registration, with your choices. If you have an error with your registration it could be picked up here, but that would require that you actually read it.
- Registration Info: Our website contains all of the above information for each event. If you would like to check your registration & options, Click on the “Players & Options” link under the “Pairings” section of the event registration section.
On The Course
- Scorecards: It baffles me that some players are still Scorecard Challenged! It’s super simple, the gross score (actual score) is entered for each player for each hole. None of this +1 +2 -1 -2 BS! Total the front nine, total the back nine, total score (front 9 + back 9) & Net score (total score – playing handicap). Improperly completed scorecards will not be accepted.
- Golf Genius: We have been using Golf Genius long enough that EVERYONE should be on it. No more excuses.
- KP Cards: Sign the correct KP Card! Each month we still have players signing the wrong cards. All this does is screw the players in that group out of a KP.
It’s super simple;
Low Hcp Group: (Hcp’s + - 18) Blue Cards
High Hcp Group: (Hcp’s 19 – 36) White Cards
Senior Group: (Playing Forward Tees) Red Cards
- Each official scorecard contains all the information each player needs to determine their group; Playing handicap & tees are listed on each official scorecard.
- Each KP card also has the group info in the upper left hand corner.
TOB Out!
