From the President

WOW,

WHAT A CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP WE HAD AT THE “SINGING HILLS INVITATIONAL”.

A NEW “PEACOCK AWARD" WINNER, 2 SCRAMBLE WINNERS, 6 DERBY WINNERS, 5 CALCUTTA WINNERS AND 40 FLIGHT WINNERS.  ALSO 3 - 911 CALLS AND 3 CASINO SECURITY CALLS.

LET’S START WITH THE “TOM PEACOCK MEMORIAL AWARD” GIVEN TO THE PLAYER WITH THE LOW NET OF THE 3 DAY TOURNAMENT.  THIS YEARS WINNER IS DAVID GONZALEZ, WITH A 4 UNDER PAR SCORE OF 212. THE TROPHY WAS PRESENTED TO HIM BY LAST YEARS RECIPIENT GENE EATON.  CONGATS DAVE, WELL DONE.

THE SCRAMBLE, HELD FOLLOWING THE FIRST DAY'S ROUND, CONSISTED OF 8

SIX MAN TEAMS PLAYING 9 HOLES FROM THE RED TEES.  AFTER 9 HOLES WE HAD 2 TEAMS AT 8 UNDER PAR AND TOO DARK FOR A PLAY OFF.  THE FOLLOWING DAY WE HAD A 12 MAN CHIP OFF (ALL CHIPPING AT THE SAME TIME) WITH THE TEAM LEAD BY ANDY HERNANDEZ OUT-CHIPPING THE TEAM LEAD BY DAVE HERNANDEZ.  NOTE: DENNY PHILLIPS DECIDED TO TEND THE FLAG FOR THE CHIP OFF BUT SOON CHANGED HIS MIND (HE THOUGHT THERE WOULD ONLY BE ONE BALL AT A TIME COMING AT HIM, ANOTHER GREAT DECISION DENNY)

OUR DERBY CONSISTS OF TWO MAN TEAMS PLAYING ALTERNATING SHOTS, A

VERY EXCITING AND TENSE FORMAT.  IF YOU’RE A TEAM MEMBER OR SPECTATOR YOU BETTER WEAR YOUR HARD HAT FOR THIS EVENT.   WE HAD 2 GROUPS WITH 1ST, 2ND & 3RD PLACE IN EACH GROUP.  THE 2 FIRST PLACE TEAMS CONSISTED OF: DAVID HENANDEZ / MIKE IPPOLITI AND

STEVE REGALADO / ERIC GASS.  WHAT A CROWD PLEASER THE FINISHES WERE.

A CALCUTTA TEAM CONSISTS OF 3 PLAYERS SELECTED BY OUR COMPUTER PROGRAM.  TYPICALLY A HIGH, LOW AND MIDDLE HANDICAPPER.  WE HAD 24 TEAMS THIS YEAR AND EACH TEAM WAS AWARDED TO THE PERSON WHO LIKED THEM BEST (SO TO SPEAK).  ALL 3 TEAM MEMBERS MUST PREFORM, AT THEIR BEST FOR ALL 3 DAYS OF COMPETITION.  THE TEAM WITH THE LOWEST NET SCORES FOR THE 3 DAYS WINS AND THE PERSON THAT IS AWARDED THAT TEAM IS COMPENSATED ACCORDINGLY.  THERE ARE 4 PLACES AWARDED.

THE FIRST 2 PLACES WERE AWARDED TO BRIAN COE, 3RD PLACE WENT TO ANDY HERNANDEZ AND 4TH TO VIC RAMIREZ.  CONGATS ON YOUR COMPENSATIONS.

THE 3 - 911 CALLS GAVE USE SOME INITIAL SCARES BUT ALL WORKED OUT FINE WITH NO SERIOUS PROBLEMS. HOWEVER THE 3 CASINO SECURITY CALLS WERE QUITE THE ESCAPADE.  WITH SOME ADULT BEVERAGE, LANGUAGE AND EVASION INVOLVED IT WAS A CAT AND MOUSE GAME TO BEHOLD.  FIRST THERE WAS THE DENILE PHASE, THEN THE REPRIMAND STAGE, THEN THE REMOVAL, THEN THE CAMO ATTEMPT AND FINALLY THE RE-REMOVAL PHASE.  ONCE AGAIN NO SERIOUS PROBLEMS THANKS TO THE VERY UNDERSTANDING CASINO FOLKES.

AS FOR THE CASINO/GOLF THEY WORKED OUT FAMOUSLY.  TRANSPORTATION WAS PERFECT, GOLF WAS OUTSTANDING, FOOD WAS DYNAMITE AND THE ACCOMMODATIONS WERE EXCEPTIONAL.

JUST A SIDE NOTE: DO NOT ORDER THE 3 TIER SEAFOOD APPETIZER DISH AT THE STEAK HOUSE. IT WILL LEAVE YOU HUNGRY (NOT) AND BROKE.

THANKS AGAIN TO KATHY EATON, DENNIS PHILLIPS AND JIM COE FOR ALL THEIR WORK.

SMOK’EM IF YOU GOT’EM,

JOHN

As the song goes, IT'S BEEN A WHILE, as a matter of a fact it's been so long that many of our golfers may have never played Glen Ivy Golf Club.  It used to be one of our regular stops for LACFGA, but things sometimes just fade away, just like our president's long drive.

But I've regressed, so here we go again giving Glen Ivy a try.  Wednesday October 16th with a 8:00 Shotgun Start, the Open players will be playing the Blue Tees at 6332 yards slope of 70.9/128 and the Seniors will be playing the Gold Tees at 5439 yards slope of 66.2/119.  The driving range will be open, practice balls ARE included with your entry fee. The restaurant opens at 7:00 and serves breakfast and will be open after the round. There is NOT a beverage cart #9, so stock up at the restaurant before the round and at the turn.

SCGA has notified us, and Ya'll via email, that they will be increasing their dues in 2025.

What this means for LACFGA is starting January 1st our Association dues will increase from $60 to $65 per year. (Shop around, this is still a hell of a deal!)

I have asked SCGA all of the questions and here are the answers;
  • All memberships with an expiration date of 12/30/24 or before pay the current price of $60 to renew, if renewed on or before 12/30/24.
  • All memberships with an expiration date of 12/31/24 or after pay the new price of $65 to renew, even if renewed before 12/31/24.
  • Members that let their memberships lapse, renewing after 12/31/24 will pay the new price of $65, even if your renewal date was 12/30/24 or before.
Don't be "That Member" renew your membership before it expires!

TOB Out!
