From the President

HAPPY DAMN NEW YEAR GANG,

HERE’S HOPING YOU AND YOUR FAMILIES HAVE THE BEST

COMING YEAR EVER.

FYI, MY CHRISTMAS YIELDED ME SOME AWESOME ADULT

BEVERAGES AND NASTY LOOKING CIGARS SO I’M HALF

WAY TO PLAYING BETTER GOLF IN 2024.  IF IT WASN’T

FOR ABOUT 28 OTHER SENIOR GOLFERS I COULD BE THE

DAVE HERNANDEZ OF THE OVER 65 GROUP.

FOR SOME REASON (CONTI & OLSON) OUR CLUB IS ONE

OF THE FEW THAT IS GROWING IN NUMBERS AND

ATTRACTING THE YOUNGER PLAYERS.  THESE HARD BELLIES

ARE THE BACKBONE FOR THE FUTURE OF OUR CLUB SO

PLEASE DON’T PISS THEM OFF, THAT’S MY JOB.

THE SHAMBLE TOURNAMENT:

IT’S TIME TO GET SERIOUS ABOUT PICKING A PARTNER

FOR THIS MARCH EVENT AT CALIFORNIA CC. (PLEASE MIKE,

BE MY PARTNER) I WILL ADDRESS THE RULES IN THE

FEBRUARY NEWS LETTER.

SMOK’EM IF YOU GOT’EM,

JOHN

Happy 2024 everyone,

Looking forward to another great year of golf with LACFGA.  We start out Monday January 22nd at the Huntington club with a 10:00 am shotgun start. The Open players will be playing the Gold/Blue combination tees at 6240 yards 70.8/126 slope and the Seniors will be playing the White tees at 5586 yards 67.5/117 slope.  The driving range will be open, practice balls included.

I would like to welcome the over 50 new members that joined LACFGA in 2023 and give a shout out to the 400 plus members like me that have been around for a while.

Just a reminder to all members you are representing L.A. CO. FIRE DEPT, our actions speak louder than words.  Please be kind, friendly and gracious to all employees at the golf courses we play.  It  makes a huge difference when I go to negotiate the contract for the following year.  Another reminder all golf courses we play have a dress code and none of them allow you to bring ETOH aka alcohol on to the course, so please be discreet.

Since John is turning over a new leaf for 2024, I guess I get the Golf Grinch duty for this year.

I hope this list of Do’s & Don’ts will help curtail the Buffoonery in the New Year

  • Check the proper Payment Option when registering for an event.
    • If you will be paying your event fees via; Cash App, Check, F&A Transfer, Venmo or Zelle; choose the “Payment via Other Means” option.
    • If you will be paying your event fees with a Credit/Debit Card choose the “Payment via Credit/Debit Card” option.
      • We offer credit card payments as a convenience to our members and the fees associated with this service is the responsibility of the member.
      • Don’t make me hunt you down for the Credit Card Service Fee.

  • Read your Registration Confirmation.
    • When you register on the website for an event you are emailed a confirmation of your registration.
    • If you do/did not receive an email;
      • #1 cause is not completing the registration by clicking the final button.
      • #2 cause is your email address is not correct with SCGA.
      • #3 cause the email is in your spam folder.
    • Don’t ask me how much you owe, it’s listed in your Registration Conformation Email.
    • If you signed up for optional games, that is confirmed with a “Yes” next to the option on your confirmation letter.
    • If the Optional Game does not have a “Yes” next to it, you are not in for that game.
    • Know what optional games you got in.

  • KP’s are not included, they are an option.
    • If you did not add the KP option, you are not in the game.
    • If you are not in the KP game DO NOT SIGN your name on that card.
    • Sign the correct KP card for your group.
      • We have three groups for KP’s;
        • LH – Low Handicaps     0 – 18 (+ Hcp’s – 18)
        • HH – High Handicaps 19 – 36
        • SR – Seniors
      • Each group/card is color coded;
        • LH – Blue
        • HH – White
        • SR – Red
    • So,
      • if you are not in the KP game don’t sign the damn card!
      • If you are in the KP game sign the right damn colored card for your group!

  • Registration and Waitlist
    • When an event fills, players are added to a Waitlist.
    • If/when a player withdraws from an event, the first player on the waitlist is moved into the tournament.
    • Players are taken from the waitlist in the order they were added; First on, First off.
    • While event registration is open players can check their standing on the waitlist by clicking the “List of Participants” button on the Event Registration Page
      • Players are listed in their waitlist order.
    • I have seen an increase in players trying to screw the system.
      • This is how it goes;
        • Group 1 is registered with Players A, B, C & D.
        • Player A emails and says Player D can’t make it and we have Player X that will take his place.
        • First, we have a waitlist of players and second Player X is not even registered of the event.
    • We don’t Fuck our Golf Buddies!
    • Players are replaced with players off of the waitlist, in the order they were added.

  • Pay your Event Fees by the payment deadline.
    • 18 players were removed from tournaments for nonpayment in 2023.

  • Pay ALL your event fees by the deadline, not just the event price.
    • The listed event price is for golf only, if you get into optional games, the cost of those games is added to the event cost to give you your total event fees.

  • Note the Event Number on/in your payment.
    • Each event has an event number, which helps me with tracking things related to each tournament.
    • Several times during the year I will be working with 3 or more tournaments at the same time and the event numbers really help with keeping things straight.

  • Keep your LACFGA & SCGA Membership current.
    • Prior to your membership expiring SCGA will send you emails, approximately two and one month before the expiration date, with a link for you to renew your memberships.
    • If you let your membership expire you will be unable to register for our events until your membership is renewed.
    • FYI – It takes overnight before you are active and able to register for our events, once you have renewed.
    • Remember – Laziness on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part.

  • LACFGA Membership
    • We thank all you who have inquired about membership for yourself or a friend.
    • We are currently accepting new members which are Active or Retired Los Angeles County Firefighters.
    • DO NOT share the registration link you were provided when joining.
      • All new memberships need to go thru one of the board members.

TOB Out!

This month we would like to welcome following new members to the our club;
